Cooling Spray Setup Guide

The perfect spray setup is essential to ensure proper cooling of the bur and tooth during operation. Often a simple change in pressure or the replacement of a vital component can cause small irregularities.

The spray should be at 2.0 bar (30 psi) for the spray water and 2.3 bar (33 psi) for the spray air - But what if you don't have a precise measuring gauge to check the pressures? Below you will find easy-to-follow instructions to be just as close

If you are uncertain and are not very familiar with the technical setup of your dental chair and compressor, please contact a local technician.

1. Preparation

Make sure you have access to the spray air, spray water & driver air (not relevant for the setup) regulation valves. If you cannot access the valves, please check the dental chairs manufacturer's instructions for use, contact the manufacturer or a certified technician directly. Furthermore, ensure that you have the following tools at hand:

- Measuring cup that has a capacity of at least 100ml (3.38 liquid oz.)

- Stopwatch

- Attach the turbine to the tubing or coupling

2. Set up water pressure

To successfully cool the tooth and bur during operation it is required to ensure 50ml per minute of coolant water.

>50ml/min of spray water is essential to properly cool the tooth and bur during the operation!

  • At first close the spray air valve entirely to ensure only water is coming out of the spray holes of your handpieces.
  • Measure the water quantity by pressing start on your stopwatch willing simultaneously filling the measuring cup with water through the handpiece.

After 1 minute the water level should be at least at 50ml in your measuring cup. In case the water level is below the required 50ml/min open the water spray valve a bit further and repeat the above step until the requirement is met.

3. Set up spray air pressure

As the water pressure is now set it is essential to create the spray mist to ensure the but and the tooth can properly be cooled even at the highest speeds. To do so turn on the handpiece and closely watch the change of the coolant as per the below mentioned video:
